28 years old, undergoing tests for bladder cancerI am a 28-year-old mother of three. In October, I suddenly had blood in my urine one day. It looked like red wine. I went to my family doctor and following urinalysis, they said this wasn't a urinary tract infection and I should go home and call them if it continues. It went away that same day, but has returned every 2-3 weeks for the past 6 months. The last time was a week ago, when the bloody urine was a thick jello-like consistency and I had pancake-sized blood clots that temporarily blocked the flow or urine (made me panic!). I had my husband take me to the ER, where they did a urinalysis to check for UTI (was ok) and they did blood work and said kidney function was fine and there's no sign of a clotting disorder. So I went to the Urologist yesterday and he sent me for a CT scan today and I have a cystoscopy scheduled for this coming Monday and they will go over the CT scan results then too. I have no pain at all with this. I had kidney stones a couple of years ago when I was 32 weeks pregnant with our son and that was excruciating pain, so we're all sure it's not kidney stones causing this since I'm pain-free and it's lasted for 6 months.
The doctor in the ER said that I most likely have some type of bladder tumors, although people my age don't generally have bladder cancer. Oh, I DO NOT smoke at all. I thought I'd mention that since I know it's a risk factor. Also, I have NO family history of cancer of any variety. Are any of you familiar with a woman in their 20's beind diagnosed with bladder cancer?
