Bladder Cancer - Chemotherapy

Post a new topicby clr3 on Fri Oct 19, 2007 7:56 pm

Seeking advise from Urodoc or others, my dad age 64 has been undergoing chemotherapy for past 3 years with Cisplatin and Gemzar and had good results with months long breaks between treatment cycles. The treatment at end of year 3 has been changed to Taxotere and he is also participating in a clinical trial for another drug (blind trial, he could be getting just the placebo). My understanding is the prior treatment has become ineffective as the cancer mutates. I asked the oncologist about the agressiveness of Taxotere and he confirmed my suspicion that it really wouldn't be as effective as the primary chemo drugs. I haven't found the Taxotere website to provide much info on its use for treatment of bladder cancer His prognosis doesn't look too good, well we knew that going into this and he was actually more tolerant of the primary treatment. Are there other chemo treatments to consider for advanced bladder cancer? As for others who may read this post, my dad was a 30yr smoker quit when he got prostate cancer (another story) and he was exposed to lots of chemicals, oil, grease, solvents to bare hands. If not bad genes, he had a lot of environmental exposure through his work environment to invite any number of cancers. Thanks for your advise.
