Bladder cancer spread to bladder muscle. My mom was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer and had surgery yesterday to remove the
tumor. Her doctor told me that it has spread to the muscle of the bladder. What is the correct treatment and what is the prognosis? Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Bladder cancer spread to bladder muscle. The best procedure (gold standard)is removal of the bladder, uterus, and ovaries. also the roof oh the vagina is removed along with the urethra. A bladder sparing treatment is chenotherapy combined with radiation, but the results, i.e. survival, are not as good as surgery.
Re: Bladder cancer spread to bladder muscle. If it is confined to the muscle and has not gone through the bladder wall and into the surrounding tissues the prognosis is very good.
Re: Bladder cancer spread to bladder muscle.Thank you so much. She has a doctor's appt in about an hour to remove the cathera, so we'll
see what the dcotor says. He still wants to do a cat scan of her pelvic area to make sure that it didn't spread there.
Re: Bladder cancer spread to bladder muscle. The Ct scan is part of the staging procedure, he or she may also order a bone scan, good luck
Re: Bladder cancer spread to bladder muscle. Thanks so much. I just got back from the doctor's with my mom. He removed the
cathera that she was wearing since the surgery. That was causing her a lot of pain. He seems to think that the next step would be radiation. She doesn't want any surgery. She is 80 years old and I don't blame her. She is still bleeding and the doctor says that if it doesn't stop he may want to go in and cauterize it more.
Re: Bladder cancer spread to bladder muscle.sounds like a good plan
