bladder cancer spreads to the prostateThis day has been a nightmare for me. I just came back from the doctor. Last week, he removed a tumor from my bladder and gave me assurance that all was well. Today, we go over a biopsy, and it turns out that the cancer in the bladder is deeply ingrained and he cannot take out anymore or it will burst. The cancer has spread to my prostrate. He says that he has to remove both my bladder and prostrate, and that I will have to pee into a bag for the rest of my life. Also, I will no longer be able to have sex. I'm only 55, and it seems as if my life is over. I'm definetly getting a second opinion, as I just have no confidence in my present urologist I've always had to call him as beg for him to see me. I had to beg him to see me today. He had the results from the biopsy for a few days now, but he never called me...I had to call him and beg for an appointment. And, every time I beg for an appointment, he always says that he will try to squeeze me in. I don't like this guy, and I don't like the way he practices urology. He treats my cancer like it was just a toothache. In the meantime, the cancer could be spreading as we speak, and he barely had 5 minutes from me. I'm so sick of being treated like this. I'm defintely going for a second opinion, and, if possible, getting a different urologist I don't know how some people can be so casual when you have cancer. I guess the longer they wait, the more money they make.
Re: bladder cancer spreads to the prostateSorry to hear about your bad experience as well as you current diagnosis. Sex does not need to be over, nerve sparing surgery can be done, and if not successful there are many options including a penile prosthesis. Also a neo bladder can be created so you don't necessarily have to urinate into a bag. A second opinion would definitely be a good idea, good luck.
