Blood in urine - pl. reply

Post a new topicby jasmine on Sun Mar 23, 2008 3:11 pm

I have been in and out of my pcp's office giving urine samples since last 2 months. The first time i went to get a complete physical done the pcp noticed blood in my urine on dipstick method. I had no other symptoms or complains. This was just an incidental finding. Then she called me after 2 weeks again and checked my urine and found blood in my urine using dipstick method again. So then i insisted her to send my same urine sample which was dipstick positive to the lab for microscopy. We were surpised when the results came back from lab since it showed no presence of RBC (blood) in urine. She then meanwhile sent me for CT scan and the results were normal too. She again called me after 2 weeks and then sent a fresh urine sample to lab for microscopy and again there were no RBC (blood) in urine. Then she calls me after another 2 weeks and checks my urine by dipstick and she found no blood this time on dipstick also.
The pcp does not find it necessary to refer me to a urologist since the microscopic lab results for blood in urine have come back negative 2 times and my CT scan is also normal too and the last dipstick test is also negative and as i have no other symptoms or complains of any kind.
I am really confused as to why there was blood in dipstick and not in microscopic findings in the same urine sample. Can anyone please throw some light in this matter. Any advice is appreciated. Should i still visit a urologist?
Please note, i am only 33 years old female, non-smoking, non-drinking and a vegetarian, never worked with any chemicals and with no past history of bladder cancer in my family.

Thanking you.

A couple of years ago I was scheduled for minor foot surgery. Pre-op had a urinalysis done which showed microscopic blood in urine. Never any that I could see myself. My primary doc recommended a cysto be done to view my bladder. It is a painless procedure and the urologist said my bladder was fine. I asked what was cause of the blood seen in the Urinalysis. She said it is often the way kidneys filter the urine. Sort of like a strainer might filter particles and let more through than others. I know this sounds simplistic. I am a female and this put my mind at ease. I would have a cysto performed by a urologist just to put your mind at ease. Good luck.

I have tried to give some reason why blood comes in urine :-

Blood in the urine is an indication of serious infection on the urinary tract. While passing out urine, blood comes out first and then normal urine comes out, then the infection is in the urethra, that is why blood comes out first and normal urine comes out from the kidneys, indicating that infection is only on the urethras and the kidneys are not infected.

On the other hand, while passing urine, if blood comes out right from the beginning to end, then this is an indication that the infection is in the kidneys, that is why blood comes out right from the beginning to end.

If the infection is in the kidneys, then the treatment is complicated. It is always recommended to consult a physician at the earliest to avoid complications at a later stage of infection.

If the infection is in the urethra, then it leads to cyctitis, which is urinrary tract infection on the lower urinary tract. Antibiotics can easily cure this infection.

If the infection is in the ureters and the kidneys, then it leads to pyelonephritis, which is urinary tract infection on the upper urinary tract. Here the treatment is complicated.

The infection on the kidneys may be due to bacterial infection or the formation of stones in the kidneys.Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic effective in the treatment of urinary tract infection on the lower urinary tract.

Any kidney stones in the kidney stones in the kidney can only be removed through surgery.By taking precautions as said above, urinary tract infection blood urine can be avoided at an early stage of infection itself.

I have recurrent BC with a golfball size tumor in a diverticula sac inside my bladder. I have had three BC operations TURBs and now its either radical cystectomy or chemo/radiation. I urinate almost pure blood along with little chunks of necrotic tissue that looks like chicken liver. Been passing blood since the last operation three weeks ago. I stink like Im having a period (Im a man).

If you suspect you have blood in your urine, get a cystoscopic exam by a competant urologist right away! And make sure he uses a camera (video), not just an optical viewing device. The cancer has to be removed before it spreads. You have to be aggresive in your demands. A person has to take care of themself and not depend on the medical establishment.
