Diagnosis Today, Surgery in Morning

Post a new topicby archrock on Thu Aug 30, 2007 9:17 pm

I was just diagnosed with bladder cancer this morning and am going in for surgery tomorrow morning. My dad, 30 years older, is also battling the discease. How long a recuperation will I have if all goes well and tumor is small and non invasive?

If that is the case you should be home tomorrow night. After that you may see blood in the urine for up to 6 weeks off and on, good luck.

Tumor was large but path report was that tumor was non agressive, slow growing and not into the bladder wall. Urologist wants to use chemo directly into bladder for 6 weeks starting in couple weeks and follow up in 6-8 weeks with additional biopsies to make sure cancer won't recur.

I am on flomax, cipro, and avodart and now home today with small cath to be removed tomorrow (see if it works). After 5 days in hospital by back is broken out and I have slight diarria (was constipated in hospital). In general my path report makes me feel good but physically I feel whipped, and very uncomfortable.

sorry to hear about the diagnosis, You could always go to a medical center and get another opinion. A feeding tube may help build some strength the non functioning kidney( I assume it is blocked by the cancer) could have a tube put in it through the skin to see if it will start working. Radiation therapy can be of some value. Unfortunately it is a tough problem and survival is limited, it might be best to work on quality of life. I wish you and your relative well.

Thank you so much answering my post!!!The problem is that my country -Macedonia- north of Greece is not that big and the best doctors are not too many!!actually one of the best that can be found wright him this diagnose:
Dg.Tu ves.urin.infiltrativum susp per magna MS lymphoglandularis iliacalis susp lat.dex..TBC pulmonalis
Op.TURT-partalis
Tab.Citeral 12x500
what do you think?? I realy think that there is somethink more to be done to keep him longer live and find right therapy!DO YOU think its too late for surgery?I read for M-VAC as the most effective chemotherapeutic for metastatic bladder cancers.what can you tell me about this therapeutic - can be used in his case? this happens for the first time in our family.I have one more semester for master- molecular biology and gen engineering but my knowledge for canser is limited.sorry about my english-its not that good!!pleace wright me again.thank you

All was going well and I started taking very slow walks, with small dog, which culminated in weekend of going to football game (3/4) dinners, 4 mile walk, etc. Sunday I noticed dark brown type blood in urine, today it is red. Went early to doctor who looked at sample and said it looked worse than it really was. I was scheduled for BCG treatment this week which is now cancelled and they will tack on another week on other end. Now I am home resting, but have a meeting later and supposed to teach a class tonight. I feel like I am caught between rock and hard place. How much is TOO much? I read that they can't give treatments while I am bleeding but bleeding can continue for weeks. I don't understand this.
