Getting run-around

Post a new topicby jmickey on Fri Mar 14, 2008 1:02 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar to my experience and what type of outcome they've reached, if so...

I have an enlarged thyroid...went to have blood work/testing done and it came back that I have blood in my urine (thyroid is just enlarged w/3 nodules, but fine - not cancer or anything). It was indicated that it was microscopic hematuria I was given an ultrasound of my kidney's and bladder. I was immediately referred to a urologist (given no results other than having blood in urine). The urologist did a scope and CT scan on me. When I went in to find out the results he said the CT Scan showed a fibroid tumor on my uterus - that I need to get to the gyno to have it fixed before my next 6-mo. urology appt. I went to the gyno and after ultrasound and routine exam done - I do not have a tumor on my uterus. I'm scheduled to go back to my urologist here in May. Others that I know think I should get a second opinion. I have a family history of cancer so it is much of a concern to me, but frustrating that I am getting nowhere.

Today, I'm "seeing" the blood in my urine (never seen the microscopic blood).

I have been informed that there was suspicion of bladder cancer but nothing has ever been said.

Has anyone experienced such things?

Hi,
I have been a bladder cancer patient for three years now. The main symptom of bladder cancer is blood in the urine. I had been able to see it on several occasions but my doctors kept putting me on antibiotics, for urinary tract infection. Because your urologist did a scope and CT scan and he saw nothing in your bladder, there is probably nothing there. I think he would have seen it. Because you have months before you see him again, I would call the urologist's office and tell them that you can see blood in your urine. Have a culture done on it. If you think you might have cancer, you shouldn't be shy about asking questions. Tell him that the "mass" he saw in your uterus isn't there and have him look at the scan again. Good luck.
