Recovering from Bladder Removal - no appetiteHi, my 59 year old dad had his bladder, prostate and lymph nodes removed on Oct 8th, 07 due to the 2nd reoccurence of invasive bladder cancer He was originally diagnosed in Nov of 06 and the cancer had went outside the bladder and there were some cancer spots on the lung. He was treated with chemo and went into complete remission based on his Pet Scans and according to the doctors, they didn't find any trace of cancer in the bladder when viewed with a scope procedure. He started having symptoms again a couple of months ago ( burning, blood in urine ) and they found the cancer had returned to the bladder and proceeded with the surgery. My main concern at this point is his current state of recovery. Just three weeks after surgery, he seemed to be doing well, had energy and eating pretty good, small multiple meals throughout the day. Now, in the past week, he is becoming very weak and losing his appetite completely. He went to see the urologist last week who only said "not to worry" and didn't even look at his stoma to see how it was healing while he was there. My thought is that with a major surgical procedure like this, shouldn't the surgeon do a scan or something to see if everything is healing appropriately and there are no complications ? Is it normal for someone to feel well for a week and then start feeling bad again during the recovery of this surgery? Should we get a second opinion ? At this point, everything we offer him or suggest to him to eat doesn't sound good and he seems to just want to lay around and is losing all motivation to get well. Please give me any suggestions. Thank You!
Re: Recovering from Bladder Removal - no appetiteAlso, I wanted to add that my dad has been experiencing leg pain and the urologist said it was probably his lymph nodes. However, I have also noticed he has some shortness of breath and he almost fainted/passed out when he took a shower the other day. Could this be a warning sign of possibly symptoms of a possible blood clot (DVT) that may have come up in his leg ?
Re: Recovering from Bladder Removal - no appetiteMy dad also had his bladder prostate and some lymph nodes removed. his legs swell. some said its because of a clot so they put him on a blood thinner. now they say that its because of poor circulation. maybe thats some thing to consider. God bless you and your family, Wendy
