Surgery Next WednesdayI will be having a small tumor removed from my bladder next Wednesday. It's only been 2 1/2 weeks since I had the first sign of blood in my urine and my Dr says that from what he saw during the cystoscopy that I have only had the tumore for a couple of months. He said that it is contained and non-invasive and that it should only take about 15 minutes to remove it. He will introduce some chemo into my bladder afterward to prevent a re-occurance. Here's my question... what can I expect in the way of pain, and will I have to have a catheter for any length of time after surgery? I am confident that we have caught this in time and that I will fully recover....just a little nervous about what happens after.
Re: Surgery Next WednesdayThere should not be much pain, usually the catheter will be removed after you recover from ansthesia in the recovery room
Re: Surgery Next WednesdayThanks for the info... I appreciate it!
Re: Surgery Next WednesdayDon't worry the surgery is pretty easy. I had no pain or anything like that. The cath. after the surgery was a little bother sum, but went fine. In my case I have had a lot of infections, after they removed the cath. I've had two surgeries now and the cancer is still with me. So I will be going to get the bladder removed. The cancer is high grade in my case, but they say it is treatable, thank god for that.
So don't worry this is a easy surgery. Chin up.
Re: Surgery Next WednesdayWell,I suppose you have already had your surgery. I hope everything went in your favor and I guess you were supprised to find it isn't a big thing to worry about or dread. I had a tumor removed about two years ago. But, due to the long length of time before seeing a urologist, it had grown into the wall of my bladder and they had to remove my bladder. The reason I am responding to your message is to give you a positive word of 'encouragement'. Consider yourself very, very, lucky that you had a doctor who was concerned about you and made the decision to get you immediate care. In my case the "Veterans Health Care" took over one year to get me an appointment and that was due to a letter I wrote to Sen Alexander of Tenn, explaining the pain I was in... From what I have researched on bladder tumors, it greatly reduces the chance of bladder removal when the patient receives early attention. So, you will more than likely be able to live a normal life after this surgery and live to see what your children become.. Good luck, and tonight when I go to bed, I will put in a good word to the man upstairs for you, praying that he will look into your heart and find the goodness that we all harbor in some ways. It is these burdensome times in our lives that awaken us to realize the pure kindness of those who attend and care for us during these unpleasant days of our lives, and they receive such little recognition for their labor and training... Bob in Tn...
Re: Surgery Next WednesdaySounds like you went through just what I am about to go through this afternoon, though they found four tumors in my bladder. What is planned for me is the TURB with application of mitomycin. It is my understanding I will have a catheter for about three days. How was your experience?
