help! Overactive Bladder at age 21?

Post a new topicby beebop7 on Fri Aug 24, 2007 11:22 pm

Well, there are a few reasons that I could be suffering from this problem at such a young age, and I'd like to throw the reasons out there for anyone to comment about. First of all, about 1 and 1/2 years ago I had had a bladder infection and had NO IDEA until I visibly could detect blood in my urine. I got antibiotics, and got rid of it. However I kept getting more mild infections that I could then feel, and tell they were UTI's but they'd go away on their own with some cranberry juice and lots of fluids. About 6 months later I detected blood again. It was a Friday and by the time I could see a doctor on Monday my urine was dark brown with blood. The antibiotics got rid of that infection too and I haven't had any blood since. I am wondering if my infection could have damaged the walls of my bladder and caused me to forever have a spastic bladder. I drink a lot, and there's nothing wrong with that, but as soon as I feel the smallest urge to urinate, within a minute it turns into the DIRE NEED to urinate. I got out of my car once to pump gas and had to stop at half a tank because I couldn't hold it and I urinated a little and had to jump back in my car and race home. This is really an unpleasant experience for me. My boyfriend makes fun of me all the time because sometimes I'm in the bathroom 3 times in one hour.
Another thing I wanted to bring up is that I am taking YAZ, birth control and my gyno told me it's a diuretic. It does something with the kidneys and it makes me feel thirsty a lot and I'm thinking it could also be the reason for my overactive bladder However I have trouble pinpointing whether or not it began at the start of me taking YAZ.
Should I go to my doctor and take a urine test just to be sure? Could it be an infection even though I don't really feel any burning? I'm on Biaxin right now for a sinus infection so I guess if I do have an infection in there it'll be blasted out in no time...
Could it be anything more serious? I'm worried because I'm so young and this just doesn't seem normal. I don't have any pain though... except when I have to hold it in for god awful amounts of time...

You should probable have an imaging study done of your urinary tract and a cystoscopy especially if you are a smoker. If you have any pain associated with a full bladder you might want to consider Interstitial cystitis http://www.urologychannel.com/interstitialcystitis/index.shtml , Good Luck
