Bleeding after microwave prostate procedure

Post a new topicby unclebeez on Wed Nov 21, 2007 9:45 pm

I am 82 and reasonably healthy but have a very large prostate. About one year ago I went the ER to get catherized after I was unable to urinate, I later underwent a one-half hour microwave procedure that has ended that problem. However, I have frequent problems with blood in my urine. It has only once been necessary to be recatherized. Even when I do have blood in my urine, I am able to empty my bladder and pass clots. However, the bleeding, which is usually started by doing something strenous, sometimes has lasted for nearly a week. I would like to be somewhat active, maybe even play another round of golf. My former urologist (we moved from Illinois to Georgia) said he might be able to fix the problem with laser surgery but because my prostate is so large, it would reguire special laser equipment that traveled from hospital to hospital. I would be interested in any suggestions or good intelligence. I have been on Finasteride for about one year.
