BPH after Prostate Cancer Radiation

Post a new topicby gmike on Wed Jun 24, 2009 2:10 pm

I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer (1 of 12 samples positive (10%), Gleason 6, PSA 5.2, Prostate 45 grams, age 59, good health otherwise).

I had decided to do IMRT radiation because the cure rates are similar to surgery and the side effects are less. I have mild BPH symptoms so my urologist wants to do some tests (flow rate and cystoscopy Urodynamic) He says if I need to treat the BPH with Cooled Thermotherapy (microwave) or PVP (green light laser), it needs to be done before radiation. The problem is that this would delay IMRT treatment for 3 months and have side effects with no guarantee of success.

So far my flowrate is low and my cystoscopy shows some restriction. My urologist is on the fence right now regarding doing a procedure to treat the BPH

Has anyone treated BPH after radiation?

Thanks Mike
