Laser Turp update, week two post op.

Post a new topicby renegade_7 on Fri Oct 10, 2008 3:01 pm

Has been two weeks since my Laser Turp. The narrow stream I mentioned has corrected itself and now not only is the stream wider, but the flow is great. There is seldom any pain with the urination, which I am glad to see. My biggest fear of all, prior to the surgery, was incontenence, because from what i had read, this is sometimes normal after this surgery, but corrects in time. Well, I have not experienced this as of yet.(knock on wood) I only go once to not at all at night now. The first week was about three times at night after the cath was removed. You have to understand, my urethra was very obstructed due to BPH I saw a photo the URO took before, and after. So before the surgery, I was going all the time, and only going a little each time. Now I believe I am emptying correctly, and the time between varies, but usually 1-3 hours. So as of now, I am very glad I had the laser turp. The first week was painful and rough, but this second week went well. If all goes well this third week, then next weeks post will be my last, as far as my recovery and experience goes. Anyone considering this type of turp, feel free to ask questions. I couldn't seem to find enough info to feel comfortable with this procedure before, but now, so far, I'm extreamly satisfied. Post next week....

renegade> GREAT posts and thank you very much. Only my third day since the treatment, so as you said, it's pretty rough. Not unbearable, but not good. Sitting down is bothering me quite a bit and it feels like somebody kicked me as hard as they could in the prostate, but I'm dealing with it. I'm able to sleep better now than the first two nights but hard to get comfy with such a big catheter in me. Yikes. Oh well. I know it's going to be worth it. I'll be real happy to get off so much Keflex per day and get the catheter out Tuesday. I think I may host a party over it and you're all invited! Ha! A Prostate Party!
Oh, and by the way, the worst part of the surgery that day was not the catheter, it was the pre-op nurse that couldn't get the IV needle in my vein, so she kept moving it around in the back of my arm trying to find a vein. YEOW. And my veins are like garden hoses! I almost went into shock. Then she took it out and went to the other arm to repeat the process. Wow. What a way to start a surgery. Again, thanks for all your insight and posts.

Dear Sir,

pls kindly let me know if the procedure has got in the way of sexual intercourse and achieving satisfactory and fulfilling orgasms. I am considering TURP recommended by my urologists who says that it shouldnt, though no seminal fluid will come out during ejaculation but the feeling will be the same.

Thanks

I know your question was directed at the other poster, since my surgery is much more recent and this is only my fifth day post op, but......my urologist told me basically the same thing: Sex should not be affected with the exception of retrograde ejaculation which he almost guaranteed, and you will still have a normal orgasm. But....I have read online that some people are experiencing different things concerning that. Some say the orgasm is a bit different and not as intense, some not. And I'm not sure
that these people all had laser TURP. I think every person is a bit different and may or may not have a
particular symptom, but all in all, I think you're pretty safe here.

A surprising result from the laser TURP>>>

No retrograde ejaculation whatsoever!! And if anything, it is even more intense than before. I don't know how my doctor did it, but after telling me before the surgery the hows and whys of why I would end up with retrograde, it didn't happen. I'm not sure whether I should take it as a plus or a minus at this point! Really surprised me, since he almost guaranteed it. I am recovering well now, still a bit of blood in the urine after a few weeks since the surgery but nothing to complain about, and every day it seems to get a bit better. They did say give it four to six weeks before you get too concerned. So I am.

I can't wait to go to my follow up appointment in Jan. and tell the doc about it.

DISCLAIMER: You just know I have to say this, but.......every person is different, right?
And different patients have different outcomes in everything. So, I just want to
be clear now and say that this happened to ME and might not with somebody else.
Or it might. You just never know. Thanks.

Thanks for your post. For us that are considering this option, it's good to hear some favorable results. I think a lot of people who have good results don't bother to post that kind of information. I am only 35 and considering this option because my symptoms are severe. Any other advice or good news from your experience would be helpful. How long before you felt normal at work? How long before all normal activities started?

Thanks again.
