i'm 35 years old and i have bph and taking proscar for almost 3 months, I like to add and take saw palmetto. it is safe to take this two?

You are about the same age I was when I first started having symptoms..

I am not a medical doctor...However I have been on Flomax since diagnosed and I regularly take saw palmetto for my BPH. It seems to help most of the time. It is not medication but a natural supplement so there should not be any harm as well..

I have also used a chinese herb called Kai Kat Win (sp) which has helped me in the past...

I have learned with this that you have to take charge of your care as doctors can only do so much for you.

It is safe to take both, proscar contains finasteride which actively shrinks the prostate, it can have some quite terrible side effects though.

Saw palmetto basically does the same thing, but with hardly any side effects. It boosts all round male reproductive and urinary system health.

Caution though. They test for prostate cancer using the PSA levels. Saw palmetto lowers those levels and that helps you. But it can artificially mask elevate PSA levels if you have cancer. It is wise to have baseline PSA readings taken and a digital examination carried out prior to taking it.
