Prostatitis and Mears-Stamey 4 cup testI have been diagnosed prostatitis (March 1st). Initial urine sample showed gram -ve bacteria. Cytoscopy + digital rectal exam confirmed. Since swallowed many antibiotics (cipro, levaquin, sulphamethoxazole). Since day 1 I wanted to know cause (infectious agent). I underst Mears-Stamey 4 cup test is definitive, yet few urologists seem to massage prostete to excrete analyse fluid. 1) not? 2) where can I find a urologist who will?

Re: Prostatitis and Mears-Stamey 4 cup testNot all urologists feel the test is indeed always definitive, or do they feel the information is always worth the predictable discomfort they will cause the patient. There are several medical schools in your area. A few phone calls to their urology departments should find you an individual who will do the test for you.
