Size of ProstateMy urologist told me that my prostate was about 63 grams and he was concerned if it continued to increase in size I would need surgery. The Mayo clinic says that a moderate size prostate is between 30 and 100 grams. My urologist wants to put me on Finasteride to shrink my prostate. The Mayo clinic says that if my urinary problems do not bother me, not to worry at this time. Any suggestions?
Re: Size of ProstateUsually, as you know, without symptoms, urologists don't prescribe drugs to shrink the prostate. He may or may not have another reason for suggesting this, but I really don't know. This is a great example of getting a "second opinion" somewhere. I would tend to go with the Mayo Clinic urologist, if that's who you saw. Are they both board certified urologists? You can always ask the one who suggested the Proscar
(Finasteride) why he wants to shrink something that isn't bothering you? Did you ask him about the potential side-effects of that drug?
