TURP RECOVERY TIME FRAMEI am 49 years old and had the TURP procedure on April 3rd for BHP. I was doing pretty good until April 24th when I worked out on the eliptical . I then had to go to the emergency room at 4:30 AM because of bleeding and I counld not urinate. They had to put a catheter back in and I stayed in the hospital for 3 days flushing out the blood. That was April 27th, a little over 4 weeks ago when I was released. I am still urinating quite often and have some urgency at times and every few days I'll have a small amount of light pink blood at the beginning of urination. Is this the norm and how much longer will these symptoms last. Also when will it be safe to resume sexual activity. I definately do not want to do anything that is going to land me back in the ER. Thanks for your help.
Re: TURP RECOVERY TIME FRAMEI'm curious to know what the doctor's office or the doctor who did the surgery said about this. Depending on the type of TURP (conventional or laser), these things can take a while to heal completely.
It's been said that the laser method has a faster healing time. I think what you are going through now is normal, but I would stay off the exercise machines, etc. until it has had a chance to heal. Ask your doctor about resuming sex. A friend of mine who had the conventional TURP (I had the laser) once told me that his doctor said to him, "Things on the inside of the body take longer to heal than on the outside". Good luck.
