Banning circumcision until males are able to consentI am in the process of contacting legislators about the possibility of getting a bill proposed that would give infant males the protection against forced circumcision until they are old enough to issue consent. I would like to hear what professionals have to say about this idea, as I am taking into account all information that I acquire before proceeding. It is of my opinion that this is an unnecessary act that borders on a form of socially accepted child abuse and that parents are taking a risk for the sake of a misguided religious tradition.
Re: Banning circumcision until males are able to consentWhile I understand that this might not be a popular view for those that have religion, I am inclined to point out that they (the religious) are generally for the protection of unborn children and this is really just an extension of that protection to the point of protecting a child's body from harm even after they are born. There is some common ground here, although I believe that it will not be viewed as such. I do understand their need for circumcision due to biblical passages, but why do it when the child is unable to voice their opinion and why not just wait until they can consent? If the parents make a valid enough point then the child would follow their ideas about the practice.
