hypospadias diagnosed after circumcision

Post a new topicby jeffo on Sun Aug 03, 2008 12:10 pm

My son recently got circumcised just b4 he turned 3mos. His dr suggested that we have him circumcised b4 he turned 3mos, so we did. Unfortunately, we were not told that he had hypospadias a condition where the urethral tract is underdeveloped and the opening of his penis is just b4 the shaft. He spent about 8wks in the hospital because he was premature and had about 2 visits with his pediatrician after his discharge, yet he still wasnt diagnosed. It was after his circumcision that we were later informed of his condition.
Most articles I've read about hypospadias suggests not to circumcise a child with hypospadias until repair of the penis has been done.
We're concerned now since he has already been circumcised and would like some suggestions.
Thank you.
