I am having a bit of trouble with e.d lately. I have noticed that there is a thick substance in my sperm after ejaculating .....like short stings of mucus.

This could easily be perfectly normal. You could try making sure you are not dehydrated. But if the color has changed or you have any reason to suspect an STD, you should probably see a doctor. You should probably consider a visit for the ED anyway.
A short verbal description isn't much to go on here in this forum; but your doc will know more about what sorts of questions to ask.
