How soon until T shots work?

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Feb 26, 2003 7:01 pm

My husband has a complete lack of libido and cannot get an erection. Recent tests of testosterone levels came back at 99 and 59. The doctor said he had rarely seen levels so low. We tried Androgel for a week with no effect, then my husband had a shot. It's been almost a week since the shot and we've seen no change in his libido and he's still unable to get an erection. If the testosterone were going to work (increase either libido or erectile function) how soon would we see a change? I would think that we would see a change almost immediately with the shot, because the highest circulating level of hormones would be right after the shot was received. Is that logic flawed? The doctor seemed to think that libido and erectile function would dramatically and quickly improve, so I'm very concerned that we've seen no change in 2 weeks of treatment.

I have been taking 1CC DEPO-TESTOSTERONE injectons once a week for more than one year. My experience is that there is no set period of time when the libido returns. It can take more than one week for sure.
Also getting my libido back did not bring back an erection. Viagra has helped me with an erection. As you know erections function through blood flow and preventing the blood from leaking out of the penis.
My doctor prescribe a 200mg/ml vile of DEPO-TESTOSTERONE and I enject myself with 1CC every week. The vile last for 10 weeks. I can tell you that with this regular regiment my libido is raging, but again the injections do not help my erection.
Good Luck, Philip

Certainly, one week isn't enough. A trial of 2-3 months seems to be common. Many physicians recommend switching to a patch or gel so that the hormone levels will be relatively stable. Talk to your physician about this.
