Testosterone Defeciency during puberty?

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Aug 05, 2003 2:30 pm

Hello all,

I've had some questions that have been in the back of my mind for a long time now. Although I have long since passed puberty, I've always wondered if I did experience low Testosterone levels as a teenager. Hopefully, I can get some responses that can help me understand how things ended up as they did.

I'm a 37 year old male. I'm 5'6" tall and thin framed. Although I am as tall as my father, I am thinner in frame as compared to him. Also, my father has much more chest hair than I do.

Although I fall within the normal range of penile size of 5~7", and my girth is around average (It sure doesn't seem that way)And, as you may have been able to guess, my father's penis is somewhat larger than mine. (please understand, I'm not trying to sound perverted, but living in the same house, sooner or later you find out).

As I understand it,Testosterone contributes to all of the male characteristics described above. So I'm wondering, during puberty, is there a "window of time" during one's teenage years when Testosterone has it's most effect. And once a man reaches his early 20's, this "window" shuts with regard to reaching one's maximum genetic potential?

There is alot more to it than testosterone level. Many people with the characteristics you describe have normal or even higher than average testosterone levels. As you mentioned, it's the genetic potential that's mostly responsible. As far as I can research, there is no reported "window" as you describe but the natural surge in testosterone is what causes puberty. In other words, if the testosterone level were low during puberty, it should still be low.

Finally, penile size has much less to do with testosterone level than most people think.
