45 Year Old Male - Gross Hematuria .. advice?

Post a new topicby bcbeak on Tue Jun 30, 2009 12:24 am

I am a 45 year old healthy active male and 3 weeks ago I experienced gross hematuria after playing a vigorous game of basketball. My doctor ran blood and urine checks and referred me to a urologist who performed two cystoscopys and ordered CT scans with dye. All tests have come back negative with no infections, tumors or growths. My bladder was clear and bleeding was observed coming from
my right ureter. I feel fine and have no pain. I sometimes have a low back tingling sensation as if I were sitting on a ball which may be caused by an old back injury (T8 comp fracture).

I am now scheduled to go back for a third cystoscopy to view the ureters up to the kidneys, and submitted urine for a Cancer DNA test. The bleeding has stopped a few times .. only to continue in varying degrees a few days later. This is a frustrating and scary experience. Can anyone offer some advice and/or share the outcomes of similar experiences? I am afraid to go to the bathroom.

I can offer some advice for those facing cystoscopy .. It is scary but not extremely painful .. Just very awkward and uncomfortable. Be brave! Urination will burn for a few days .. but there are pills to prevent pain and infection.
