Hematuria

I have been in an on going search for the cause of "significant" amount of blood in my urine since last November. The blood has never been visible to me and I did have surgery to open up my urethra. After this, my urologist says that I need to go to a nephrologist because I still have "significant" blood in my urine. Anybody out there ever been to a nephrologist? What should I expect? My urologist has already completed all the tests to rule out cancer, including CT scan, blood tests, ultrasounds and she finds no reason for the blood. Does anyone have any idea what I have to look forward to when I go to see the Nephrologist? Thanks
