Pediatric hematuriaMy 2.5 year old daughter has microscopic hematuria Her pediatrician ordered a urine culture; she had an ultrasound of her kidneys, bladder, and liver; we collected urine for 12 hours for tests related to a blood draw. All of the tests were negative, thankfully. Her doctor says that some people just have idiopathic hematuria and that we've ruled out every cause. Do you think I should get a second opinion? Also, should I make sure to have her urine checked annually, or more or less often? Thank you.
Re: Pediatric hematuriaMy son was 12 when his hematuria became present and he was filling the toilet with blood. They told us the same thing. We have had countless tests, x-rays, CT Scans and blood and urine. There is nothing about his kidneys, bladder and ureter we do not know about. He still occasionally has blood in his urine (visible to the eye) and often has microscopic...but no known reason. Because he is diabetic we are always at the doctor and they always check, all remains well. My suggestion is if she appears to be healthy, not swollen, not in pain, growing and thriving, then try not to panic and see what happens. The doctors will take care of her if something else pops up but idiopathic is by its very name unknown cause. I'm sorry, I know it's scary.
good luck.
