A Seborrheic Dermatitis question...

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Feb 10, 2002 5:22 am

Sorry to bother you again but i have one of my biggest problems and fear..

How early does a rash have to occur to be considered an HIV symptom?
I recieved unprotected oral sex a year ago. About 4 month later I started to get a rash around my face, especially around my nose and chin. Someone told me its seborrheic dermatitis which i guess is. Now exactly one year later I still have it including dandruff but mild, it just tends to flake up now.
I have had dandruff a lot of times before that stupid incident, even most of my family has it but not worse as mines. I just want to know if this is a sign of HIV????
This is the only symptom I've had since excluding a couple colds. Never even a sign of a flu.

Sorry once again and thank you for reading.

Seb Derm is very common. Probably 12-20% of people have it. You had it before your exposure and your family has it. We see it associated with advanced hiv infection, when other correlates of immunesuppression are present-- like weight loss, infections, hair loss, etc. We don't see it at month 4. Now, can I guarantee you didn't get hiv from the oral sex...no. But I can tell you that the symptoms you're worried about don't arouse suspicion in me. GR
