Seborrheic Dermatitis Question!!!

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Feb 17, 2002 6:07 am

Pls! help me!

Hi Doc. I'm 19 and its been 1 yr since recieving oral sex by a unknown woman (about Feb 01) and I just wanna know how severe does SEB DERM. have to be in order for it to be a sign of HIV? Because I have SD in my face and scalp since July 01.
My face tends to get flaky especially around my nose and chin, but doesn't seem to itch and my hair just flakes a lot. I just put lotion and the flakes can disappear for several hrs. Iv'e always had flaky hair but never in my face. Is this normal? And What symptoms is usually associated with seb derm in HIV+ people? This is like the only hiv related symptom i have had.

Also, this might sound dumb but can an HIV+ person gain 45 lbs of mass in a year through weight lifting?

Thanks a lot for reading... you are the only person i can talk to about these kinds of stuff, my friends just laughs.

It sounds like you've had dandruff for quite sometime. Seb Derm is a variation of dandruff. So, the seb derm in and of itself doesn't worry me. Seb derm is late complication of aids. We see it as people's immune system fades out. This is not seen in the first year as an hiv manifestation.
With respect to the weight: People with hiv, like anyone else, could gain 45 lbs of muscle from weight lifting. That would be in spite of hiv not because of it.

Thank you. And just so you know, dandruff and seb derm are very treatable. I usually use selenium sulfide 2.5% shampoo. Wash the face and hair with it 2-7X/week. Apply a low potency steroid cream or ointment to the affected areas of the face after using the selenium (something like 2.5% hydrocortisone or elocon lotion). good luck, this is very easy to treat.
