sore on lip?

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Apr 02, 2002 4:21 am

Ok, I let this guy take a drink of my beer at a party, and then i continued drinking it myself. Later, i found out this guy had a split lip, or a sore on his lip. If the bottle touched that sore, could the HIV virus been spread to me after I drank right after him?

Probably not. The only documented cases of transmitting hiv like this are in people sharing tooth brushes-- where both people had bleeding gums. You could get oral herpes like this though if the sore was a "cold sore."

So, do you think its crazy for me to worry over this so much? I can't stop worrying about it, and I don't want to be like this the next 6 months. I mean, how much exsposure would be needed to infect me? I'm sure blood was not on the bottle, but could there have been mirco-sized blood cells with the virus on there, and would that be enough to infect me? I'm sorry, i freak out over S***, ok, from now on, no more sharing drinks!!

I think that if you read my last post you'll see that there are NO CASES of people being exposed the way you describe.
I was a doctor twice in Nepal. They have a rabies epidemic there in dogs, cattle and other wild animals. A man came to see me in a clinic. He had not been bitten by a dog or other animal - the only way we know of rabies being transmitted. But, he said that a dog with mange had rubbed up against his leg. The mange was wet. He thougth the dog could have been licking his own mangy fur. He wondered if the mange could have transmitted rabies to him through his leg.
You get the point.
