Hydrocele

After having a hernia surgery I had a hydrocele. Later sent back to work where I almost reruptured my hernia and was out of work for another 6 weeks. Since my hernia has healed and my hydrocele is almost gone, but now I still have extreme discomfort and pain next to the shaft and not just the testical. The doctors are saying that most likely the only course of action is to sever the nerve endings going to the testical. This doesn't sound like a good option, and I can't take off of work. I am in the military and the military doctors just keep prescribing me tylenol and motrin. My testical swells when I wear my gear or due heavy work.

Has any one had this similar problems? Any suggestions on what other problem it might be? What is some serious problems that may result if I do this surgery? Any answers would be helpful.
