mass on my right kidney

Post a new topicby sgp on Sat Feb 09, 2008 11:18 pm

Hello I am new to this forum, actually just joined a few minutes ago. I have been having pain in my right kidney area for about a year now. I figured it was a kidney stone, as I had one of those (a large one) almost 5 yrs ago. So I just started watching/waiting for it to pass...but the pain never let up....and I never saw it pass or felt it get stuck in the urinary tube as the one before did. I just went on with the pain, as we have 3 children and I am a stay at home mom. I knew that I couldn't afford to be out of commission. Well, now the pain has gotten so severe (started getting severe in Dec '07), and I have had to go to my urologist Well, bad news! I have a mass on my right kidney that looked to be as big as an orange....plus I have major amounts of blood in my urine, which went over the highest amount possible on the test they ran. I have major gas in my intestine. I guess it seems I am falling apart at 34 yrs old!
So I went for my CT scan on Friday, 2-8-08, and I am waiting for those results now. Needless to say I am scared, anxious, nervous, etc. Anyone ever have these issues before? If so what was your outcome. I was already told my urologist that it could be a tumor...but I go on Wed for a stacopomy (sp) where he'll run a camer into my bladder to look around. My pain now is so severe that on a 1 to 10 scale it stays at an 8 for the least amount of pain, but most of the time it's at a 10. I am just really ready to find out what the scan said, and get the treatment, whatever it may be over with.

Thanks for listening and any advice you can give. Blessings......

I am a 33 year old mother of 3 and found out august 13 2007 that i had a mass on my left kidney about the size of a fist. i really had no symptoms. on the 11th i had blood in my urine and decided on monday i would make an appointment with my doctor. monday came i got up went to the bathroom and it was basicly blood. i called no appts for that day so i waited for my husband to come home for lunch to take me to the er. by the time he came home i was in so much pain i could barely walk and could not stay out of the restroom. they did a ct saw the mass and referred me to a specialist. with in a week i was being preped for surgury. I had the whole kidney removed and a couple lymph nodes. the pathology came back as me having a grade 3/4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma. I have an appointment tomorrow to see if i have to do treatments. i was told that if the mass was smaller and was a lower grade i would just have to go in every few months and just have a check up. what i really want to say is be brave stay strong and don't worry. i was in the hospital a week and every thing went great. please keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thanks so much for your post! What exactly is renal cell carcinoma, if you don't mind me asking? If you wish not to post what it is, you can email me at [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed].
I am hoping that in the morning when I call him, he'll have the results back from my ct scan. I go in Wed for the cystoscopy.

Thanks for your encouragement....it helps tremendously to hear from others and have support like this!

Blessings,

i have done some research and basicly it is just another term for kidney cancer. mine was clear cell which is the most common. and the rest depends on the biopsy. please keep me posted it is good to hear from someone who is going through the same thing.

I actually have the most AWESOME news of all!! That mass on my right kidney is a huge kidney stone! My doctor said these exact words: "Well, Sheila, what I was for sure was a tumor, is now a very large kidney stone. It is the biggest one I think I've seen. It is very large, and I was for sure it was a tumor. God does work miracles! However; your bladder isn't in the clear yet, but well know more about that tomorrow. Also while I am doing the bladder surgery, I will also have to put another stent, like the one you had before, in your kidney because of that large kidney stone. It will take several times to break up that stone, because it is so large, but I believe that I can break it up! However; the kidney stone being so large, could also be the cause for your bladder problem and the gas build up in your intestine. We'll know more tomorrow!"

I am so EXCITED!! I have to give GOD ALL THE GLORY!!! Thanks so much for your thoughts & prayers, and asking about me.

My father who is 63 and overweight with heart problems, was recently told that he has Cancerous Tumor on the outside of his kidney. They told him that it was slow growing and would just watch it. He was given no further information. Should they be doing something?
Thanks.

I think they should. Is this all you know. Maybe because of previous health problems they may want to try something different. Try a second opinion. Please keep me posted on your fathers health.

I think they should also I'm 64 and only have one kidney left and they did the radio frequency on me of course now they are going to do a biospy because it looks bigger and they are going to check and see if its scar tissue or if its back and bigger were praying its nothing but at least their doing something. I'm not sure how i would feel if they werent doing any thing I might get a second opion at least. My other kidney that they took out about 10 yrs ago saying it was cancer turned out to be benign tumor and i lost a kidney but i guess that many yrs ago they werent doing all the different surgery they are now. I wish i would have had the choice back then that i had this time i would still have 2 kidneys but whats done is done and Gods in control always.

Hi,

I am also a 34 year old with a history or renal cell carcinoma. I was diagnosed on 2/27/06 and i am doing ok now. I had no symptoms and they found it accidentally. A few weeks later they removed my left kidney and i have been going for tests ever since. I wish you luck, listen to your Doctors and make sure you go and see an oncologist before you decide on your treatment.

Mike
