my mums kidney cancer

Post a new topicby Lisauk on Sat Feb 23, 2008 5:35 pm

Hello everyone,
Have just joined the site. My mother of 64 years was recently diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer in her right kidney. She had a nephrectomy one month ago we were told that the tumour was about 10cm and that she had probably had it for about 3 years without knowing. The operation was difficult as it had grown on a vein and artery. We are now waiting for her to see the oncologist We havent been told grade or stage yet or whether she will need follow up therapy. On the information given can anybody give there opinion on what may happen next?. The cancer hasnt spread, my mother has some scans to be done just before seeing the oncologist which will be on 6th March, my mothers operation was on 16th January.

Thank you

Lisa

I'm confused because you said "advanced kidney cancer" but also that it had not spread. I thought it was advanced only if it had spread. I am 48 and had a radical nephrectomy in 7/05 after finding a stage II (meaning large size 12cm.) but no spread of the cancer. I just ran my second 15k so tell mum to keep her chin up and stay healthy. She may just live another 30 yrs! My prayers are with your family. Good luck and everyone stay positive. Enjoy life now!

Hi ya
Thanks for your encouragement. I say advanced coz shed had it a while, but that wasnt from a doctor.
My mother hasnt actually been told the stage or grade yet. When she had the operation done in January this year it hadnt spread and she just recently had more scans done which she will get the results back from the oncologist tomorrow. Hopefully will be clear, guessing id say my mums cancer is prob a stage 2 or 3. Shes much much better now gaining back her strength after the operation and shes even put on some weight, as shed lost quite a lot before her op. Thank you for your interest,
and im very glad your latest results were clear and i wish your results in the future with the same outcome.
Lisa.
