Thyroid Cancer patient & awaiting a possible RCC diagnosis H

Hello!

I am a current Thyroid cancer patient just having undergone a second neck dissection at MD Anderson Cancer Center. While I was having my pre-op testing, I had a chest CT that just happened to catch the top of my kidneys. On my right kidney, a 1.5 cm tumor was determined. After seeing a urologist at the center, I was advised that I could possibly have kidney cancer unrelated to my thyroid cancer. He said if it was a thyroid metastasis, I would have it everywhere which I don't. He said it could also be just a fatty tumor which can be seen in women my age (40). He would not do another CT on me right away as he wanted me to heal from my neck surgery and didn't want to give me anymore radiation (tests) for 2 months. I am now needing to wait until August to go back for further testing. I am, needless to say, very nervous about this. I do not feel as though I have any symptoms at this point and obviously if this is cancer, we must have caught it early as it is a fairly small tumor. How many of you have had small tumors that resulted in a cancer diagnosis? I guess I am looking for any info I can find at this point and what your feelings are about what you are hearing from me. Thanks for all help!

Seven (7) years ago I had my left kidney and a 2.6 cm tumor removed laproscopically as part of a radical nephoroctomy. Today, I understand, they may have partial nephoroctomy or freezing of the tumor. Your tumor is very small. If the doctor feels that it is cancer, then you will most likely go through one of these proceedures (surgery). It is not fun, but it beats the alternative. If it is not taken care of when it is small, over a period of years it matastisizes, and results in a shorter lifespan. If it is taken care of before it matastisizes, you will live a normal lifespan without any residuals, except for the beauty marks on your stomach.
