ITA about the pain. Urology has never believed my pain. I had my stones taken out the back bilaterally 3 yrs ago feels like 10 since I have had 6 more treatments. I have continued flank pain, key word "flank" pain that goes unheeded with urology. I have had 3 ESWL's & two ureteroscopies where they basketed the stones. Since my stones never pass no matter how many gallons of water I drink ESWL is not the treatment for me and the stones keep causing infections. My stones were all infectious in the first place...Its very frustrating when your doctor doesnt believe your pain and doesnt find out why you have pain if they rule out urological.

Good luck to you I hope you feel better.

I hear you...I just saw the Chief of Urology today and he was a jerk...he said since I was overweight it could be back pain..for goodness sake I know when I have stones down there...he doesnt do CT KUB's just KUB x-rays but then how do you know if there are stones forming? well golly gee...now I know why my original trx uro left...my original uro knew that there would be stones and at least he took precautions...Believe me he did what he could and I wish he would still treat me but I have this stupid HMO which is affordable a medical mill and he's in private practice where I would probably go broke, but he would be worth every penny. Without him I wouldnt have my kidneys. He did 4 out of my 6 treatments I have had and I am probably looking at #7 shortly.

I am popping vicodin like Skittles during the day which I normally dont do since I am a paralegal in a busy law firm...then I have to get up every hour to stretch because of the flank pain. I will be sitting there at work then all of a sudden I get a sharp jab in the flank then it goes to the other side.

i know what its like to be poppin pain meds like vicodin....im poppin Percocet like candy...one night i called my uologist because i was in pain and im supposed to take 2 percocets ever 4 hrs as needed for pain and i only had one and i just got home from work..i had no idea what to do so i took it and this will tell you how bad this doctor is...he told me to take a shot of whiskey to chase the pill and if in 45 mins the pain did not let up to take 8 tylenol...i ended up going to the ER and being put on a pain pump also hes they type of doctor who dont care about the patient AT ALL he would rather the patient suffer with infections and pain..i know cuz thats what hes done to me...

then i get a letter in the mail stating hes not going to further treat me..

I STILL have a stent in that was only made to last 2 weeks in the body...

ugh it makes me wanna cry honestly

ITA...

I almost walked out on 4/2 with the the doctor but didnt want to burn any bridges...

I got a letter that my primary care was leaving who was controlling my pain...now I have had to pick another primary care doctor who doesnt know about my complicated general urological hx.

I cant believe that a doctor would tell you to drink whiskey while your on pain medication. I would report him if I were you. Was he Board certified?

I have found that a lot of uros dont believe your pain...and since I'm a female stone patient in a man's predominant medical field it doesnt help the situation...I dont see many women in the waiting room or any female urologists whom I would think would be more sympathetic...and not treat you like a fish out of water...that is floundering

I have finally found a local uro at my HMO that hasnt ruled out the flank pain, yet...he didnt rush me when I saw him and brought up some good points...being that I had driven 120 miles roundtrip for 6 treatments I should have left when my original surgeon left...bad mistake on my part...I have to beg for them to do any testing and I want a CT kub EVERY six mos...

My dad has lived with kidney stones for over 50 years. About 3 years ago his urologist started giving im grief about the amount of pain medicine he was taking even though all his stones could be documented on the CT. My dad gave up on receving help from the urologist and turned to a pain management doctor. She has been wonderful. Let's face, if you have stones your are going to need pain meds. You should see someone who specializes in pain. My dad still has to see the urologist but he has been feeling so much better. Forget the er all they think that you want it pain meds!

I was going to mention a pain mgmt dr to my uro several mos ago...then my infectious disease doctor mentioned it b/c she actually cares about my pain & recurring UTI's...If I hear again if the stone isnt in the collecting system moving or causing obstruction you shouldnt be in any pain...I don't know what I'll do...well I am getting ready to ask my uro if he has had a kidney stone...then see what he says..logical answer is "NO". One knows their body well...

50 years...that's a long time...I'm glad he found a doctor who actually helps him...why do doctor's take the hippocratic oath? They go to medical school for 10-15 years residency and training just like uros do & I just don't get it...uros are supposed to help you that's their job but they dont believe you're in pain...the stones CAN punch your kidney...

I have read that on many posts that going to ER doesnt help...plus you're there for many hrs before they assess your case...I've been there done that...besides I'd rather go to my dog's vet than my local ER; although my pain isnt above Percocet I am tired of feeling like someone hit my flank with a MAC truck...very uncomfortable esp at work...

I am seeing a massage therapist for acupressure on Wednesday to see if that works, havent told my uro that, but since he doesnt believe my pain anyway, what's the use? I have also thought about acupuncture..holiopathic healing...since I guess the pain it's all in my head...

I hope you are able to find some relief. Of course you are in pain if stones are in your kidney. They are NOT suppose to be there. They poke and stick your kidney tissue. I know because I have seen my dad in pain for a long time from stones inside his kidneys not just the ones that are on the way out!

Thank you. It's just hard to believe a uro can't say the same thing :).
