Unexplained pain and kidney stonesI started having kidney stones with my first pregnancy. I would have these spells where I would hurt so badly on one side of my abdomen that I would cry. Tylenol was all I was allowed to take at that time and it didn’t even come close to easing the pain. My doctor admitted me to the hospital and found nothing wrong with me and two days later at home I passed two pea-sized stones. What a relief.

Re: Unexplained pain and kidney stonesYou are absolutely correct stones are one of teh most painful things you can have. They are also difficult to diagnosis in pregnancy since the kidneys can naturally get backed up from pressure on the ureters by the enlarging Uterus. Also we try not to use radiation (x rays) during pregnancy. There does seem to be an association between pregnancy and the formation of stones in some people.Good luck to your daughter.
