Weekly recurrent kidney stones

Post a new topicby livingwith on Wed Mar 12, 2008 1:02 pm

My husband was diagnosed with kidney stones in November of 2006 at the age of 22. His family has a history of uric acid stones and gout so he knew what to expect when having a stone. No one thought anything of it until things started to get worse.
Whenever your doctor suspects you have a kidney stone, it is likely that you will be given a CT scan to determine the size of the stone. My husband’s first CT scan showed about a half dozen small stones which were determined to be uric acid after...Read the full article

I can feel for you.I'm 46 had my 1st stone at 17,then at 22,24,27,at 29 i had 2 in my right side about the size of ping pong ball. Was in the navy at the time so 2 times a week for 8 weeks i had lithotripsy done.At 31 they started coming 1,2 a week i would pass a stone. At 36 i pass 1 to 3 stones a day,i have lithotripsy 4 to 6 times a year in the ER around 10 times per mouth, can't have a CT,KUP,orIVP done
because they don't when i will start to glow.I've been on all the meds.I take one med and my stones go from calcium to uric acid.and i have the great gout to.At one time they were going to take my right kidney but i get them in both sides.I'm trying to find out what the lithotripsy is doing to me.
If they try something new with him let me know me and wife would love to hear what they are trying. GOOOD LUCK

After a long history of kidney stones I began to pass very fine crystals of uric acid the past 11 months. My urologist prescribed urocit-k ( potassium citrate ). I couldn't tolerate the dizziness and stopped. What curtails about 90 % of these miniature crystals is hydration of 3-4 qts. of water per day which for me is not as easy as it sounds but it also greatly reduces the blood content in the urine.
