New with MANY stones

Post a new topicby sunniegnt on Tue Apr 22, 2008 3:20 am

I really need help, answers, support, etc. At 24 weeks pregnant 3 and a half years ago we thought my appendix burst - it was actually a stone, my first of many. The rest of that pregnancy I was in and out of the hospital with pylo. and more stones causing preterm labor and blood in my urine. I passed a few after that. Last Feb I had my first CT scan to show i had 4 on my right kidney. In June I became pregnant again. I was on antibiotics my entire pg this time. I passed 10 kidney stones while pregnant, had my daughter 5 weeks early due to constant contractions and passed more stones after the pregnancy. At 6 weeks postpartum I was taken off the antibiotics which was followed by several days or blood red urine. I am normally VERY healthy so I don't understand this. I eat very well, very balanced diet (except a couple cookies everyday!). I am active. I just had another CT scan done - 1 stone in the right and MANY in the left the biggest being 6.5 mm and 4.5 mm. The nurse that was calling to tell me the results said there was too many to go over on the phone WOW.
I am scared and waiting for the urologist to return my call. My husband doesn't get it and doesn't seem concerned. I am afraid this will mean we can't have a third child. I have been told there is a possiblity of no calicum in my diet (i have already had to do that for 1 week - AWFUL!). Then I am afraid that will lead to other problems. They really can't figure out what is causing them. I am ALWAYS thirsty and drink water all the time. My friends say that they don't know anyone that drinks more water than me.
Many of you are talking about stents - what is that?
What are some ways they can get rid of these stones? ANy advice, anything anyone could tell me. My urologist is really great, I just am wanting to hear from people other than my doctor.
Thanks!

Welcome. have you had your parathyroid hormone levels checked & a 24 hour urine collection checked for calcium? I'm asking because I always had normal calcium blood levels & just slightly high parathyroid levels. However, a 24 hour urine collection revealed that I was passing too much calcium in my urine, being leeched from my bones and had hyperparathyroidism (since corrected by an operation to remove the one parathryroid gland - the other three are now acting normally.)
