Hi, i am a 31 year old male living in the uk, 5foot 5 and 10 and a half stone, i have been suffering from kidney stones for the last 12 months and after 2 x-rays that did not show anything and 1 ultra sound that showed a small stone, then a ct scan was done and a stone was found in the lowwer part of the left kidney, it measured 12mm x 7mm.I had a session of lithotripsy to break the stone up and after a visit to the emergency department i managed to pass most of this stone and was told there is a few fragments left in the kidney, i went back for a 2nd session of lithotripsy but they said all the stones had gone??? but in the waiting process for this treatment my right side has been giving some pain which is nearly identical to the left side pain, i mentioned this to them at the 2nd lithotripsy session and they did an x-ray and ultrasound but NOT a ct scan(considering that was the only scan that showed the last stone??) and they said all was clear no stones and to go back to my gp for my pain???? so all this pain and waiting has now been 14 months, these are my symptoms: slight pain in left side, worse pain in right side, bloated stomach with slight pain in the top near the sternom erea, slight lower back pain, head ache, shortness of breath, depression spells. the test i have had done are: ecg, 24hour ecg, full blood count(came back platelets 147), and i have just sent of a stool sample for H pylori and im waiting for the results! I am so angry nothing has been found and its taking 12 months to get rid of a kidney stone and 2 months later i still feel awfull everyday, hope you can help! many thanks, lee

I can legitimately say, "I feel your pain." I was diagnosed in June 2009 with bi-lateral stones, one measuring 9mm. Up to that point, I had been experiencing lower abdominal pain and cramping. Once the stone was identified, I was sent to a local Urologist. He informed me stones were NOT my problem... I suffered for another few months. FINALLY, I see a new Urologist who immediately schedules lithotripsy. But the date is two weeks away... two DAYS later, I am in the ER with extreme back, abdominal and groin pain... the doc did a scope and tried to remove the large stone with a basket, but failed to reach the stone. He even showed pics of the procedure to my husband showing him the stone and why he couldn't reach it... that hospital stay was 7 days...

I called the day before my litho to verify we were on schedule and come to find out the Urologist had CANCELLED my litho while I was in the hospital... somewhere between the time he did the procedure and wrote up his notes the stone had magically disappeared in his mind... So, now, two more months later, no litho, lots of pain meds and still lots of pain, I remain untreated. There are no other Urologists in the town I live in and to get into the University hospital, there is a THREE MONTH wait.

I am battling anger and depression on a daily basis. I am tired of feeling foggy from the meds, struggling through my day at work and draggin myself home only to care for my busy family... Once I lie down at night, the pain really kicks in, so I am not getting much sleep either...

Apparently, kidney stones are NOT life or death to those who treat them... only to those experiencing them.
