Post a new topicby sheels_1999 on Thu May 08, 2008 1:49 pm

I was put on potassium citrate and allopurinol . I am curious as to which one is suppose to actually dissolve my uric acid stones. I don't really know much about these medications I hope someone can enlighten me.

Well...the allopurinol is for control of the uric acid in your body. The potassium citrate is supposed to reduce the amount of oxalate in your system. In nine years, I have never found a medication that dissolves stones. They just don't exist. There are no miracle cures or herbal remedies.

I am also taking Allopurinol and Potassium Citrate for "calcium-oxalate stones". The doctor tells me that I will have to take these pills for the rest of my life. I stopped eating salty foods and I drink 2-3 liters of filtered water every day. I used to grow new stones every 2-3 months, but haven't seen a stone in over 6 months now. I think I found what works for me. Good luck.

Uric acid stones are the one type of stones that can be dissolved.

Have you noticed any side affects from these medications?

allopurinol is suppost to dissolve them but it will take at least 3 months...you need to drink lemon juice..Lemon juice concentrate 1 cup and 7 cups of water...I dont' put sugar in it..Be careful with the allopurinol because it requires blood tests every 3 months to check your liver...I quit take it, I did not want any more problems that what I already had...Hydrangea and marshmellow and gravel root herbs are suppost to dissolve stones, lemonade will make your urine acidic to help prevent stones, also limiting meats will help
