My daugther has been diagnosed with VUR grade 4 when she was one month old. Since then she has been on antibiotics (bactrum) to avoid any UTI We’ve been lucky as she has never got a UTI She is now 1 year old, and based on the ultrasound and VCUG she just had this week the reflux grade hasn’t change. The doctor who did the VCUG told us that it remains the same as last year.
Tomorrow we have an appointment with her urologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I’m worried about the out...Read the full article

My son was born 6 months ago with bilateral grade 5 reflux which resulted in severe swelling of the kidneys. His official diagnosis was megacystis/megaureter. 2 days ago he underwent a ureteral reimplant surgery to correct the reflux of urine from the bladder up into the ureters and kidneys. My guess is that your urologist will probably recommend the same type of surgery to fix your daughters problem if her ureters are still refluxing, dilated, and she has hydronephrosis. My son only spent 2 days in the hospital and is now home recovering. Hopefully the problem is fixed. Good luck to you and your situation.

My son was diagnosed while still in the womb. At 2 months we had all the tests done at he had grade 5 VUR. We just had the tests done again last week and it hasn't changed at all. He is now 14 months. He will need surgery to fix it. Our Dr. told us the younger the better. Especially before they are potty trained, otherwise you might have to start all over with that. Its scary to think of your child being so young and having surgery, but its better than the consequences if he doesn't. Good luck and I hope these kids can all be cured of it.
