My daughter’s VURJocelyn has always seemed to get illnesses differently than other children. In August 2007, she had her tonsils removed. In November 2007, I believe she had her first UTI The dr told us she had a bad case of the flu.
In January 2008, she had the exact same symptoms that she had in Nov…105* fever for 3-4 days, vomiting, extreme irritability…they said the same thing. The flu. I asked the dr at that appointment why she had started to wet her pants again even though she had been potty ...Read the full article
Re: My daughter’s VURHi, I know how frustrating this can be. When my daughter was 2wks old she had her 1st fever, they said she had an ear infection. I brought her back the next day for a second opinion, they said she didn't. For the next 6mths she had various fevers, rashes and stomache "flus". Finally at 8mths I got a great DR. who did a UA, her 1st! She had a UTI. A few tests later she was diagnosed with grade 4 reflux. She had surgery at 8mths old, very scary for us! It took a year post surgery to finally be free of infections. She is now 5 and has been healthy for the last 3 years. I would get a second opinion for your daughter, perferably with a pediatric urologist. We did alot of praying through all this. I believe it made the difference!! Good Luck!!

Re: My daughter’s VURI hope that Jocelyn is much improved. Your story sounds so familiar. . .
My granddaughter Kate is 5 years old and was diagnosed today, finally, with VUR. She has been in the hospital 3 times during the past 9 months with "a virus", "a UTI" and a major re-occurrence of a kidney infection. In all three instances, she had fever of 105+ for 4-6 days, vomiting, and chills that would shake her for hours. We could not get a definitive answer as to what was wrong in our local hospital but the VCUG test was performed and indicated she did not have reflux. She was taken to two pediatric urologists (one in Houston, and one in Dallas) and the latter one repeated the VCUG with nuclear medicine. This finally revealed what was wrong. We know now what the problem is. . . but we did not get the grading. He recommends surgery because of her history and the fact that she has significant renal scarring on her right kidney. She has been on antibiotics for four months and has had break-thru infections even with this treatment. If you have experienced the surgery for this with a child, what should we expect? Also, I understand this may occur in siblings as well? Kate has a twin sister who has had no problems - yet. But, she has problems with bedwetting. We are contemplating getting her screened. Any thoughts?
Re: My daughter’s VURHi my daughter Izabella had surgery in March 2008 she was 16 months. we found out she still has reflux on one side grade 3. She also has had 1 infection which required a week stay in the hospital. I.V. antibiotics only. Was your daughter still showing reflux after surgery? The Dr. said it could take up to 1 year or so to resolve.
