My last resort

I have been deeling with my 8 year old daughter having uti since she was 3 years old. She has had every test and we have not found anything wrong with her kidneys everything has shown up fine and same with how they are functioning. I was getting tired of putting her on antibiotics all the time because I know that It also kills all the good bacteria that she needs in her body to fight off any infections that may be reoccuring.
Also many of the antibiotics she was given don’t agree with her...Read the full article

I have been plagued w/ a lifetime of uti's and now at 29 yrs old I finally have a doctor who has picked up on what my problem may be- when I was younger it was harder to detect- my bladder doesn't empty and I don't have the nerve receptors to tell it! When I feel "empty" my bladder is still full- after years of abuse my bladder now has stretched out- only at my older age have we trully been able to pick up on this- Dr's didn't want to rerun test on me nor did I but I finally had to give in after having a lot of problems during my pregnancies- because the bladder doesn't empty completely and in my case now not even close the bacteria grows- I have to drink a ton of water and we are testing different meds for now- my daughters both have problems, but are having a hard time figuring out exactly what their problems are- we have already cured the reflux and still have reacurring infections- I'm becoming the compass and we are going to do more test on the bladder- not sure if this really helped but you never know?

Thank you for replying to my post. I know that my daghter needs to continue on having tests we are scedualed to see her pediactric uroligist in january. The only thing she has not has is an MRI and I have been doing a lot of reading about uti and have heard alot about reflux. I will be bringing that issue to her doctors attention. But in the meanwhile her infections can't be cured with pennicillan.I will continue on for as long as it takes to find out what is wrong with her.I fought with family doctors and pedeatritions to finally get her in to seeing a pedeactric uroligist for about 3 years. Till finally I went to emergency in the next town about 40 min away and literally bald asking for some kind of answers and to be sent to see a specialist, I wasn't leaving untill the appointments were made. They finally took me seriously. And never gave up for them to do the testing that she has already recieved it has been a long hard battle and as for you too.Hope everything goes well with you and your daughters.I am hoping that all the research I have been doing and tests that eventually she won't have to live with this anymore. It is so amazing that I found this website. You begin to relize that there are other people out there dealing with the same problems. And you are not the only one that there child has these on going problems.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I read about your daughter and I said that sounds exactly like what my 10 year old is going through. We have been through everything ourselves and we are so exhausted by it. There is nothing structually wrong with either her kidneys or her bladder yet she continues to get very bad UTI (fevers over 105) that can last for days with antibiotics. My daughter is allergic to Penacillin so she really doesn't have all the alternatives when it comes to the drugs. This week we were hospitalized for the first time she was actually documented with one when she was 3 years old. I however feel they began even eariler than that, but they told us that her illnesses were fevers of unknown orgins. I know in my heart there has to be another reason why she is getting these. Does your daughter have low tone in her stomache and or lower extremities? Do you notice if your daughter's stomach becomes a little distended right before the UTi? Just a couple questions for you.

Thank you.

i have never noticed this in either of my daughters or myself, however i will pay closer attention!! a new diagnoses we just recieved the other day on my girl was "dysfunctional elimination syndrome". i haven't done a lot of research on it yet, but you may look into it too- it has to do with the way the eliminate waste (bowel) effecting the bladder. i'm going to do more reserch but this was new to me in the 29 yrs i've been dealing with this so thought it may be new to you? just another thing to look into. i'm very sorry about your poor daughter!!! it really sounds like your daughter may have a build up of yeast in her stomach?? that may be the distending you are talking about- i think it's called candita? something like that?? good luck let me know if there is anything else i can help you with!

Thank you so much for responding to my post. She will be seeing her pediatrician for a follow up on Tuesday and I'll bring this both to his attention and her urologist. Hopefully we can figure it out soon. I hate to see her suffer.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you.
