2nd grade child, 7 years old, is incontent in daytime

Post a new topicby livingwith on Wed Oct 17, 2007 6:14 pm

I have a set of twin 7-year old girls. They are my entire life. I love them so much. That’s why this is extremely painful for me. My younger of the twins (by 3 minutes), is having an incontinence problem at this age and she’s in 2nd grade.
This is quite embarrassing for me as her mother and for her as the child who just does not go to the bathroom to urinate. She has no problem going to do #2, but for some reason, every single day, she urinates her pants and by the time she is...Read the full article

My 8 year old daughter has been having UtI infections since she was 3 years old. We are now in the process of finding out what is causing this.I know how you feel because your heart just breaks for them living like this day to day. So we set up a system that when she is at school she just says excuse me I have to use the washroom she is alowed to go whenever and as often as she wants. Also she uses the washroom at set times this allows her to try and empty her bladder even though she may not have the urge to go.She goes at every break before going outside, lunch time and before last class. In case of an axcident we have what is called a pee bag which is just a tiny backpack in her locker. with the following...
underwear3-4 pairs for those little tiny dribbles. Those little tiny dribbles can often smell bad too so it is important that she changes her underwear frequntly if this is happening. 2 pair of pants, socks because those get wet too in big axcidents. And a ziplockck bag with baby whipes to wash herself down after an axcident. It is important that she is whiping her legs and every thing off. Whipes work well because tp doesn't get rid of the smell. Also it is very important to use the whipes even for the little dribbles to eliminate the smell. You may also want to put a few grocery bags in there so she can put the wet clothes in and tie it . At the end of the day have her bring home the grocery bag in her backpaack so it can be washed but still leave the pee bag at school so it is there for the next day . Have her bring it home so it can be refilled when needed. Hope this eases some of your frustration.
P.S. Hope everything goes well with your daughter. This sounds like a lot ,but it becomes a routine. You will have a little more ease when you send her off to school.

Hello! My name is Lori Stout. I have a daughter that is 5 years old and in Kindergarden. She is haveing simular problems. When she needs to go to the bathroom she sometimes will run as fast as she can and never make it to the bathroom. There is hardly a day that goes by that she doesn't wet her pants. She has been taking Ditorpan for this problem since August and it is somewhat better but we are still fighting this battle that seems to be never ending. We are seeing a urologist and she can't figure out what is going on. We are to take the medicine until April and if it is no better then we are going to be sent to another group of Urologist that is actually about 3 1/2 miles away from where we live. I love my daughter with everything that I am but this wetting pants is getting old. I try not to get mad or even say anything because I know she is doing everything she can to not let this happen. I am just ready for someone to at least tell me why this is happening. Even if it can't be fixed I would at least like to know why its going on. I will be praying for you and your little girl while we are fighting simular battles.

Dear Lori:
I wanted to respond to your comments on my post and wish to thank you for them. I wanted to tell you the outcome of what's been occurring with my little girl. First, we figured there must be something physically wrong due to the fact that she states "she can't hold it." It's not something that she does because she's lazy or anything like that. I thought that she was smelling really awful, a worse odor than what I thought was a normal urine smell. So her doctor took some of her urine and we ran it to the lab. She has e-coli in her urine. My little girl's doctor immediately put her on Ampicillin, a strong antibiotic and she's been on it for 4 days now (it's a 7-day treatment). She is already showing signs of getting better. For 2 NIGHTS, and I emphasize NIGHTS because she always wears a pull-up to bed anyway (even without this problem, she's too heavy a sleeper to wake up during the night although her twin sister has never gone in bed), remember her problem extended into the daytime. But, anyway, for the last 2 nights she has not peed in her pull-up, which was utterly amazing to me. She has also not done it at school. I am very grateful that we caught this on time. It could have definitely affected her kidneys in a bad way. She never had a fever or pains so we had no indication that there was a "physical" problem. Maybe you should look into your baby having a urinary tract infection also (and, I've been told by the doctors and even the pharmacist) that this is a common problem. The pharmacist also told me that we all carry e-coli on our skin, believe it or not... it was not as scary as I thought it was, because I was freaking out! I felt much better after acquiring information from professionals and doing my own research online or wherever I could find it. So, this is just my personal advice to you, and I'm not a doctor, but maybe you should look into it a little deeper, or get a second opinion, or something because it may be something that is easily curable. I hope my daughter gets better and I most certainly hope that yours does also. I will pray for her and you because I know how I feel as I'm going through this. It's not quite over for me yet but I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel and that's what I wish for you and your angel. Let's pray for them and for ourselves. God bless you and your family.

Dear Zane: Thank you for your comments to my post. I wish that you would read what I wrote in this string to "Lori Stout" so that you may be aware of the outcome of my situation. You do have excellent ideas and I definitely believe you are on the right track in trying to find what is causing this because I know I felt and still feel at times really scared for my little girl. Anyway, please read my response to Lori for my update on my little girl's condition. Thank you very much, again, for your comments. May God bless you and your family.
