circumcision revisionMy son needs to have his circ fixed. I went to a urologist who said he can fix it after my son is one year old. My insurance company doesn't have a pediatric urologist or a pediatric anestheologist and they just denied my request for a referral to a pediatric specialist outside the system. I am wondering if my instinct to have a pediatric specialist is warranted or will just a plain old urologist and anesthesiologist be sufficient? Is there any literature to support your view?
Re: circumcision revisionUnless the redundant skin is tightly adherent to the penis, it is simply a cosmetic issue and medically unnecessary. The procedure is otherwise very straightforward, and a well trained general urologist should be able to do a good job. As far as the pediatric anesthesiologist is concerned, again it depends on the experience of the general anesthesiologist, but unless your child has other medical problems, it is safely done by most anesthesiologists beyond age 1.

Re: circumcision revisionIf the redundant skin is removed, what is the chance of the child having decreased sensitivity in that area?
