dilation of posterior urethra on emptying/VCUGMy daughter is 3 1/2 yrs old with recurrent UTI's Recently had VCUG and renal ultrasound. Renal ultrasound was "normal" ,but VCUG showed "dilation of posterior urethra on emptiyng- dysfunctional voiding". The pediatrician wasn't comfortable with this so we are seeing a urologist in a few weeks. The lab lost our catheterized urine specimen for analysis, so we sent off a clean catch voided one to check for current infection. Anyone know about this "dilation" condition? Thanks so much.
Re: dilation of posterior urethra on emptying/VCUGThe bladder neck/posterior urethra naturally funnels or dilates with voiding. If the are saying it is always open then she may have Hinmans syndrome, where children learn to void will tightening their pelvic muscles because it hurt so much when they had the previous infection they are anticipating that it will hurt again. I assume your daughter is neurologically normal, if she were not then one might consider Spina Bifida wouldn't worry about this diagnosis, the first two reasons are most likely. Definitely see the Pedaitric urologist, good luck.
