dysfunctional voiding/reflux

Post a new topicby barbonk on Wed Aug 15, 2007 8:33 am

I have a 3 1/2 yr old. About 6 wks ago, she had fevers and after that started frequent bathroom trips, trying to urinate, but not being able to do so all the time. She had lab work done, and all tests were normal, even for a UTI She still continued to use the bathroom frequently, and we returned to the dr. The dr said she had "dysfunctional voiding" and explained that we needed to allow her to use the bathroom to urinate on a schedule to get herback on track. She has told us that she does not want to wait too long, because then her pee will burn. Things have improved in the last few weeks somewhat, but they are not "normal" as of yet as far as the frequency of her bathroom trips.

Could there be a reflux issue here? She was fine with all of this 6 wks ago, and all this started the beginning of July when she had a virus with fever for 3 days (was tested for infection through urinary lab work, but all test were normal).

Please respond with any advice or thoughts.
Thanks,
Kelly

With no urinary tract infection this should not be reflux, sounds like dysfunctional voiding also called Hinman's syndrome

ok, thanks.
What is the best way to deal with dysfunctional voiding? We have had good days and also bad days with it.

It is basically bladder retraining which takes time , good luck. Biofeedback may be of benefit, you should inquire.
