grade v reflux in maleMy son was diagnosed in the womb with hydronephrosis in both kidneys. My amniotic fluid level was always good and actually I had extra fluid. He was operated on at 8 days old for PUV.After that repair I thought the kidneys would go back to normal. Instead at a month and a half he was life flighted because he was losing too much sodium through his urine, therefore dehydrating and his potassium levels were very high. This was found through routine bloodwork previously. He showed 0 signs of even being that bad off.He was put on sodium chloride supplem.(liquid)1ml in his bottle 8 times a day. Then at 5 months old he got an obstruction in his left kidney which they operated on and fixed. They drained 8 oz. from that kidney. The next ultrasound 2 months later showed that he had debris and pus in his left kidney. He was not cranky, sick, and did not even have a fever. His antibiotic bactrim was changed to furadantin. He is now almost 11 months old and he still has grade v reflux. He is still on sodium. He is maintaining his sodium levels though because they never increased his dose, and he is almost 30 lbs. They are doing 3 month ultrasounds on his kidneys and say that we will just make sure he does not get an infection and that he may grow out of it.I've heard surgery doesn't always fix it and i've heard that grade v doesn't usually go away.Anyone else have a similiar problem? I'm mostly reading stories of grade v in females.I wonder if his problem was caused by the PUV and he may grow out of it.I have also read that its genetic, and generally will occur in siblings.
