Infant son with hypospadius and possible micropenis? My son is 5 months old, he was born 1 month early due to IUGR. When he was born the pediatrician told us that he has a mild case of hypospadias and advised us not to circumcise him. That is about all of the information I have received as of yet. We are still waiting to see a Pediaitric Urologist
Anyways, as I have been researching hypospadias I have come across information on Micropenis. I am very terrified that my son has this? I understand that any measurement under 1.9cm is considered micropenis. My son is right around there at 5 months old. If this is the case, I am really surprised that it was not caught by a doctor earlier? My son spent time in the NICU after birth and was seen by several pediatricians and our family doctor. I plan on getting in to have this checked, but if this is the case, when do they normally do hormone treatments (if needed)? Also, if his measurements are just over the micropenis threshold, does this mean he will always have a small penis? Does penis size at birth correlate to penis size in adulthood? I feel so horrible thinking about this stuff, but I obviously want my son to be as 'normal' as possible.
Re: Infant son with hypospadius and possible micropenis?salam
although i am not a urologist but i think you have to consider chordae (fibrosis) that is frequently be associated with hypospadias especially i have my brother son with similer condition that i already posted his problem and after relieving the chordae the penis increases in size remarkably .so you may be assured now hoping that this the case not more tragic conditions.
Re: Infant son with hypospadius and possible micropenis?Keep at it.
Make sure he has the best chance for a normal fun life. don't use plastic plates or forks etc. use the glassware you can get at safeways if you want bowels. If he is still bottle fed, get glass bottles too. (they are more common now, due to scare on plastics cause estrogen level increases in humans). Get his thyroid levels checked (T3, T3U T3 free, T4, T4 free, TCH). Get his adrenal levels checked (harder to do). Good luck. My motto: All Doctors are great, but University Doctors are the best.
Re: Infant son with hypospadius and possible micropenis? My son is almost ten and I am also very concerned about his penis size. I have taken him to his regular pediatrician when he was around 5 1/2 and he said he was normal. But as he is getting older, I have noticed that his scrotom and his penis is very small. I took him to another doctor last year and she also said there was nothing to worry about that he is just overweight and once he loses the weight he will look normal. I'm concerned because my son mentioned to his grandma that he has a hard time pulling out his penis and peeing so sometimes he just sits down. Should I take him to a urologist, or a specialist? I don't want him to grow up feeling "less than a man". Please someone help!!!
Re: Infant son possible micropenis?I am just wondering if you have gotten any further information regarding your son. My 4 year old seems to have the same issue and I want to find out if I could be doing something about it so he doesn't face being teased, etc. as he gets older??? Thank you for any help.
