prophylactic antibiotic doses for 3.5 yr. old?My 3.5 year, daughter was diagnosed with grade 3 reflux. We have been told that it is unlikely that this will correct itself (I also have a history). I have gone to 3 Urologists to discuss options and have opted to use prophylactic antibiotics until we figure out hat type of surgery and at which hospital. The problem is that the MDs have prescribed totally different drugs and doses. I feel Bactim is not neccessary at this point and would rather her take Amoxycillin since she loves the taste. Does anyone know how much a 33lb. child should take? 1 Md prescribed 250mg 1/2 teaspoon, the other 400 mg 1 teaspoon. It's also scary that my Pediatrician prescribed a higher dose than all 3 Urologists. Shouldn't this be textbook? Thanks for any info!
Re: prophylactic antibiotic doses for 3.5 yr. old?The amount of prophylactic antibiotics is calculated by weight. You might want to call your pediatrician back and check that he has given you the correct dosage - the lower one sounds more accurate to me. My daughter weighs 30 lbs and takes 1/2 tspn of Bactrim. She is younger than your daughter, but again the dosage should be based on weight.
Hope that helps!
