Re: VCUG - Any tips frm parents? The VCUG only lasts for about 10 minutes. I feel my daughter was more upset about the technicians holding her still, and my having to leave her side. First they will insert a catheter into her bladder and void any urine inside. Then they will fill her bladder with a contrasting die. This allows them to see exactly how her urinary tract is working. Once the bladder is full, they can see if there is any reflux of urine into the upper urinary tract. It can also diagnose the cause should there be any reflux. While it isn't pleasant to have a catheter, it's not painful per say. Just for a calming effect and to releave any discomfort I gave Madison Ibuprfen a half hour or so before the procedure. Her discomfort wasn't evident after the test. Do watch out for any fevers after the test. Madison got an infection afterwards, but this isn't the norm. I know it's hard to watch her go through any discomfort but you are doing the right thing for your daughter's health. Good luck.

Re: Re: VCUG - Any tips frm parents?I have just now logged onto this website, after being thoroughly frustrated with my 2 1/2 yr old little girl's UTI's. Saw your post and was wondering what the VCUG found?
My little girl had one back in September and she didn't have reflux, but has had 3 more UTI's since.
Hi my 3 yr old daughter is having a VCUG 2 wks from now. How bad is this...
