5 Weeks post surgery! WOW!

Post a new topicby asnotary1 on Wed Jan 16, 2008 9:12 pm

Drove to Boston today to meet up with the doctor who did my surgery. Let me put things in order here first, just in case you have not been following this saga of events

I was diagnosed with Peyronies over two years ago. I tried to leave things alone, use the Vitamin E both as a liquid "rub on" and as a digestable vitamin. After a year and half or so, it failed to do anything good for me. Actually a zero result. But then I did not know what I was looking for either.

Sexual intimacy had become impossible. It finally came to a head one night and we both admitted that it was totally frustrating for both of us. I could no longer penetrate my wife. My penis would literally double in half. I would kid that if I had to urinate, I would piss my face. That is how bad the bend was.

My urologist sent me from Springfield MA to Boston as PD is not a common condition and was not treated by anyone in this area. He sent me to a [moderator note: personal information removed] at Boston's Mens Health Clinic (actually in Brookline). The first step was to confirm the condition - it was obvious. The next step was to try the least invasive method, hoping injections of Verapamil would work. (Somehow, now that I have had them, I know that they were definately invasive) To be honest, it was terrible. I would be extremely tender for a week after the injection and just have one more week to get my mind back into having the next injections. I was scheduled for a total of six (6) injections. The bruising, the pain, the swelling was terrible. But I kept it up, hoping!

At the 4th injection I stated that nothing was happening, no change in curvature and I was actually just getting worse. He said to wait for the 6th. However at the 5th, he said it would be my last, no sense continuing what was not working (why he did not stop before the 5th, I don't know)

Went back for the 6th injection knowing that all had failed, not for lack of trying or the intelligence of the doctor. I knew, but did not want to acknowledge it, that the next step was surgery.

Surgery was scheduled for two (2) weeks away. Original a month, but I would be busy with Taxes at that time. So our 36th Wedding Anniversay was the scheduled surgery date. My great thought being, what a great time we can have for the following anniversaries

Surgery went very well. Doctor and staff were well pleased with the results.

Now the problems that came at that point are not something most men will have. I suffer from Severe Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Best way to describe it is a disease (it is not) of the lining of the body.
Surgery causes those of us with this condition to flare. And mine did! BADLY! It is not something the doctor did, or a dropped scalpal or anything like that. It was simply my body reacting to a physical invasion and I reacted. As I said "BADLY"

I did not take the meds that were offered by the hospital when I left as the meds I took for the Fibro were stronger than what I was given Post Surgery. I take 60mg of Morphine twice a day and 7.5% Percocet every 4 hours as needed. My meds would be strong enough. I was wrong, but then again, this was my fibro reacting, I can almost say that none of you will be affected this way.

It was slow going as far as recuperation is concerned. I had a hard time getting up off the couch or the bed for just a few days. Then it was easier. My butt hurt me most of all. Doc thought is was my position on the table bruised my muscles. I fought to walk upright. and that was actually not too hard to do.

I saw my doc four (4) weeks Post Op and he was extremely pleased, Everything looked as it should. Today I returned to see the PA and he claimed my surgery created a "Perfect Penis" OK, I know that sounds egotistical, but I liked the sound of it. He claimed it was nice and perfectly straight. The perfect result of what they tried to do. I was a bit more involved because he had to correct the curve of severe proportions. He gave me permission to return to having sexual intimacy. Masterbation had been my only recourse up to that time

We ate lunch with a friend to celebrate his Birthday and then came home

It was great! I penetrated her vagina. I did not buckle out or pop out. I even overcame performance anxiety and enjoyed a mutual climax. It was like newlyweds or reborn virgins having sex for the first time. Unbelivable. I want more, now! But things are sore, still some swelling, so I will take a day off to recoup.

My advise to others considering this - go ahead, do it! The pain is forgotten after the first option of being with the person you love.

Will I ever have this done again? NO! Absolutely NOT! But that is my Fibromyalgia talking. The extreme, extra pain that 99.99% of those of you who are considering this operation will NOT have.
Will you have pain? Yes! and it will be intense at times. Will you get over it? YES just like a mother gets over childbirth. Was it easy? NO, but with a skilled surgeon your attitude and your partners support, it will draw you closer together

I suggest tight underwear Post Surgically. As I, and most likely you, experienced was a pronounced erection. Embarassing to say the least, a jock or Athletic Support will help you with that. I also suggest that you find a way to satisfy your partner while you are going through this. Their are other ways to please your partner than intercourse. Thank God my wife was comfortable with oral sex. No reason for her to go unresolved and it continued the "togetherness" you both need

Good luck and if you have any questions, I can give you a lay mans opinion

Hello Rich.. i am a 20 yr old male who is a candidate for penile surgery due to curvature. I do not have peyronies disease i have a congenital curvature..this means that i was born that way. i know that we both have different penile problems but i believe the surgery is the same. It bends downward like a banana. This was never a problem for me in the past, however i am starting to become more sexually active with my girlfriend, yet we have not had intercourse. I started to worry because i have a fairly significant downward curvature and i was worried it might not be pleasant for her because it might hurt her or me or compromise certain sexual positions. So i started to research this topic and found a very good urologist in socal whose specialty is penile curvature. I have had a couple of appointments and he has examined me and i have shown him pictures of my erect penis and he says that my curvature is something that will compromise my sex life and that i am definetely a candidate for surgery. I am waiting to schedule surgery, its looking like it could be sometime within the next 2 or 3 months. However, as you probably were before, i am a bit nervous. I have heard that very rarely things can go wrong with a penile surgery and you can lose feeling in your shaft and have less of a hard erection. i just have some questions and concerns and id really like to communicate with you since you seem to have a great success story. The doctor told me that after surgery id probably want to take it easy for about a week and then he said i could be back to work or school fine. Was it the same for you?? As far as the pain post-op is it something that is more painful or more of a discomfortable feeling? Does urinating hurt after surgery? If any, What are some suprises or things that im in for that you didnt expect before surgery? As far as the length of your penis goes how much did you lose in cm. or inches. if any?? Is your sex life back to normal and do you emotionally and mentally feel better?? Is your erection still as hard as it used to be. In your opinion do you think that surgery is the best thing to do?
Sorry for boring you with all of these questions, its just hard to find people to talk about this with. I hope i havent asked you to much and if you could , would you please write me back with some answers to my questions and or any other information that you could share with me about penile surgery.. it would be very appreciated
-Thank you -MC

First of all, sorry that this took so long to answer

Let me see if I can answer some of those questions -

Size of a penis is very important to men. I was afraid that I was going to loose a lot of inches. but only lost a couple and that was because of the stitching that had to be done. Like you I also had to have the curvature corrected, and then the implant.

Pain - yes you will have pain, I can't answer how much as I had circumstances that caused additional pain - My Fibromyalgia. You will have meds, use them, it is easier to come down to your pain that to come up to it. Not sure how to explain that but think that if you are at your lowest, you have an uphill climb. If you are at the summit, it does not take much to control the pain

After surgery, I suggest a pair of undersized underwear to hold you in. I have bought a jock strop a size smaller than I use normally. I get much more control from that. But get a bit carried away, order a red or black one, make a statement lol

Thickness, no no change at all

If I was to say what I feel different, I feel where the stitches were placed. I will not be feeling them eventually I am told.

I am not qualified to say how you and your g/f will react, I would say try it, see what happens, and I also encourage a second opinion NO, LOL, not from another girlfriend, but from another doctor

And if I were to give one piece of advice that would be not to be embarassed. This has happened, deal with it as you are able. Feel free to discuss all situations with your doctor, all concerns, all worries

I don't know if I can get my personal e-mail [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed] in here, but write me there if you have any questions - no matter what they are. I am happy to help

Like you said, I have been there, and yes, it works so well, really well
